Mojo Monday 144 Very Thankful

It's Monday!  Time for another one of my Mojo Monday challenge cards!

Stampin Up MOJO144 Mojo Monday Very Thankful Smooch Spritz Square Lattice Big Shot Folder

I whipped out the Bernina sewing machine today for this Mojo Monday challenge!

Mojo Monday 144 Very Thankful

Here are the highlights of today's MOJO144 card:

  • The Kraft card stock was textured with the very popular Square Lattice Embossing Folder from the Summer Mini Catalog, then spritzed with the Gold Glow Smooch Spritz.
  • With my Paper-Piercing Tool, I pushed the 5/8" Basic Black Satin Ribbon into fun folds while sewing to the card front layer.
  • The retiring stamp set Very Thankful and its pretty peacock image was accented with sponging Classic Ink over a smaller card stock square acting as a mask.  I think it's a nice effect, don't you?
  • I filmed a quick video on the masked sponging I did on the Confetti White Card Stock squares that I'll have on my YouTube channel soon.  In the meantime, you can watch my other video tutorials!

Thanks for taking the time to stop by and comment today!

Storybook Watercolor Gift Card

I'm still having fun watercoloring the Storybook Specialty Designer Series Paper and my Aqua Painters.

Stampin Up Watercoloring Gift Card Ideas Look Here Big Shot Aqua Painters Storybook

This one was for my first-grader's eighth grade buddy at school, who illustrated and wrote a really cool book for my son!  My little guy is SO proud of that book, and we wanted to thank him for his time and talent!  That book is a treasure!

Storybook Watercolor Gift Card

  • The Storybook Specialty Designer Series Paper is thick watercolor paper with cool line drawings on one side and colored patterns on the other side.
  • Use your Aqua Painters and Classic Ink to color the line drawings:  Squeeze your Classic Ink Pad in the center by the label while closed, making sure to touch the lid to the pad, and you've got a puddle of ink in the lid when you open it up!
  • I used the Stampin' Up! Look Here Big Shot Die to hold the gift card inside.  Once you've made a few, they go together very quickly with a little bit of folding and Sticky Strip.  Just follow the instructions that come with the die.

KWernerDesign Reader's Choice #2 Color Challenge

Fun colors for Kristina Werner's color challenge today!

Stampin Up Kristina Werner Color Challenge Card Ideas Elements of Style Watercoloring Itty Bitty Bits Buttons Square Lattice Big Shot Dies

Elements of Style Watercolor

Elements of Style is such a beautiful stamp set!  I can't stop using it!

  • This time I used Watercolor Paper from Stampin' Up! and my Aqua Painter in Kristina's colors to create this Old World looking card (think stucco and climbing roses).
  • I also finally used a trio of Bitty Buttons, the Itty Bitty Bits stamp set, and the Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack that I ordered from the Summer Mini Catalog...fun combo!
  • Do you like the touches of White uni-ball Signo Gel Pen around the card?  I did some faux stitching around the Kraft card base, then some graduated dots on the bright Summer Sun greeting box.
  • My "stucco" is White StazOn ink brushed over the Square Lattice-embossed (this folder is ONLY available from Stampin' Up!) Ballet Blue card stock, and the edges are either distressed with my Cutter Kit (LOVE IT) or torn by hand.
  • Some Crystal Effects over the wild roses and dogwood-ish flowers and leaves give the rustic elements a touch of polish and freshness.
Do you like?  Does it get you in the mood for a European vacation?  Click if you'd like to see some of my  other challenge projects, which I'm having a blast creating!

On a side note, today is a certain goal deadline with Stampin' Up! that I would LOVE to meet (Stampin' Up! is SO good to us!).  If you have been envious of all the wonderful benefits that I get as a Stampin' Up! demonstrator, please consider joining before the end of the day and make us BOTH happy!  I would absolutely LOVE to have you join my group!

Presto Patterns Emboss Resist

At Hostess Club this month we were all about the emboss resist technique.  This is one of the cards we made.

Stampin Up Hostess Club Card Ideas Presto Patterns Square Lattice

We sponged several Classic Ink colors over the new Presto Patterns Specialty Designer Series Paper (available in the new Summer Mini Catalog) for this look.

Presto Patterns Emboss Resist

  • For the emboss resist technique, you can make your own resist by heat embossing card stock with Stampin' Emboss Powder and your Heat Tool, or you can start with pre-made embossed card stock like we did with the above card.
  • When you sponge Classic Ink over the embossed pattern, the underlying card stock picks up the color but the embossing doesn't take the color, it resists it, revealing the embossed pattern!
  • I also used my new favorite Embossing Folder, Square Lattice, available exclusively from Stampin' Up!

What is a Hostess Club? It's a great way to budget and build up your Stampin' Up! supplies by getting together at least 6 of your friends for the club and meeting each month to learn new techniques while making a few projects. You meet once a month until everyone has been the hostess, ordering a minimum of $25 in Stampin' Up! product while taking turns being the hostess and getting the Hostess Rewards for your month!  If you live in Rapid City, SD or the Black Hills, just let me know if you'd like to participate in or start a Hostess Club!

Bride & Groom Hostess Club Card

This was a card we made at Hostess Club this last time, perfect for upcoming weddings:

The theme for Hostess Club was emboss resist, and we did it several different ways.

Bride & Groom Emboss Resist Card

This card uses the Bride Specialty (Whisper White) #115669 and Groom Specialty (Basic Black) #116478 Paper.

  • We sponged Ruby Red Classic Ink over the Bride paper in a circular motion, which colored the background, but the design on the paper resisted the ink, leaving the white swirls.
  • The black heart was cut from the Full Heart Punch in Whisper White for the back layer and then the Groom Specialty Paper, which was cut down the center to within 1/4" of the bottom point then folded back for the lapels.  Use the Mat Pack template and your Paper-Piercing Tool to place and set your matching brads.
  • The white heart is Whisper White Card Stock run through your Big Shot Die-Cut Machine and the Scalloped Heart of Hearts Embosslit Die (a carryover item from the Occasions Mini) with a Clear Rhinestone Brad for a diamond.

This is an easy but elegant card that you can make using your mad stamping skillz!

My Favorite Summer Mini Stamp Set

...is Elements of Style!

Elements of Style Stamp Set

This gorgeous stamp set that is in the new Summer Mini Catalog from Stampin' Up! reminds me of the wild yellow roses that adorned the Sturgis, SD neighborhood I grew up in, and those that grow on my grandparent's place in Piedmont.  Up here in the mountains of the Black Hills where we live, there are several pink rose varieties that grow wild.

The hummingbird is precious (I'm a birder so I LOVE hummingbirds!), the greetings are versatile, and the flourish makes a wonderful background stamp or can be colored with markers for a multi-colored image!

In fact, if I could only order ONE stamp set in the Summer Mini, this one would be IT!  Click to see the projects I've made with the Summer Mini Catalog products so far, and if you'd like to see the projects I've made using the Elements of Style stamp set, you can type "elements of style" in the Search My Blog box on the sidebar.

Here's my favorite so far that I've made with this stamp set:

Stampin' Up! Elements of Style in Baja Breeze and Kiwi Kiss by Michelle Tech 2stampis2b

You can order this gorgeous stamp set from me RIGHT NOW by clicking over to my Stampin' Up! shop and typing in or copying and pasting these numbers:  #118611 for the wood-mount set or #120045 for the clear-mount set, your choice.  The Spanish sets are #119910 (W) and #120105 (C), and the French versions are #119900 (W) and #120099 (C).

MOJO139 Sentimental Island Oasis Journey

It's finally feeling like spring and nearly summer here in the Black Hills, even though we just had 8" of snow last week!  Over the weekend I got my deck flower pots filled and our creek running through our mountain property is full!  The forest smells so good in spring after a long winter!

Stampin' Up! Mojo Monday MOJO139 PPA42 Island Oasis Sentimental Journey Top Note Challenge Card Ideas

The warm weather makes me think of a Sentimental Journey to an Island Oasis!  In a Word...sunny!

MOJO139 & PPA42 Challenge Card

That's right...today I combined the sketch from Mojo Monday and the color challenge from Pals Paper Arts to create this one dreamy card!  I love the bright challenge colors that match the Island Oasis Designer Series Paper from the Summer Mini Catalog.

To create that "Love Boat" feel around the Sentimental Journey cruise ship stamp, I created 3 graduated sizes of post-it note masks around the shape (for the smallest one I traced around my clear-mount stamp), then sponged the Classic Inks starting from the outside in!

Check out my other challenge cards!

Are you like me and LOVE the Top Note Die that is exclusive to Stampin' Up!?  If you buy the Big Shot Die-Cut Machine from me you'll get free gifts worth $147!  Click to see the details and what you'll get for FREE!

KWernerDesign Reader's Choice #1 Color Challenge

I was inspired by Kristina Werner's color challenge to make this card, using her color swatch combo:

Stampin' Up! KWernerDesigns Color Challenge Elements of Style Kiwi Kiss Baja Breeze

Pretty colors!  Baja Breeze, Kiwi Kiss, Regal Rose, Pretty in Pink, Basic Gray, and Whisper White!

Baja Breeze is Coming Back!

Baja Breeze was one of my favorite past Stampin' Up! In Colors, and I think between that and Kiwi Kiss I just HAD to participate in Kristina Werner's challenge!  I worked in the new Elements of Style stamp set and Square Lattice Big Shot embossing folder from the new Summer Mini Catalog.

I used markers to color on the stamp, then spritzed with a fine mist of water to give it a watercolor look.  The Big Shot Stampin' Up! Top Note Die and some sponging with Classic Inks plus edge distressing with the Cutter Kit make the card.

Please let me know what you think!  You can also see my other challenge cards I've made.

Stampin Up Happy Graduation Gift Card Holder Travel Journal Sentimental Journey Look Here Big Shot Die 2stampis2b

Look Here Happy Graduation Gift Cards

I love that Stampin' Up! has a la carte stamps now:  I embossed the new Happy Grad stamp from the Summer Mini Catalog onto the also-new Travel Journal Designer Series Paper, perfect for signifying new directions.

On the inside I stamped Sentimental Journey images in VersaMark ink, leaving plenty of room for a handwritten sentiment.

Do you think the graduates will appreciate their gift cards a teensy bit more since they've been handmade using Stampin' Up! goodies?  I think so!

I sent this gift card to school yesterday with my little guy to give his 1st grade teacher, who has done a wonderful job!

Look Here Big Shot Gift Card Holder

I used the Big Shot Look Here Bigz XL Die to cut the inside workings of this seemingly intricate gift card holder.  Really it only took one pass through my Big Shot Die-Cut Machine to cut the cool inside of this card. The instruction sheet accompanying the die showed me exactly how to fold and adhere the gift card holder.  Isn't it neat how the tabs and arrows hold the gift card in place?

The card base was made from the watercolored Storybook Specialty Designer Series Paper I showed you the other day.  The other side of what I watercolored is this bright and sunny Summer Sun print, the perfect contrast to the Taken with Teal card stock that I stamped with the Three Little Words stamp set.

Teacher Appreciation Week

It's Teacher Appreciation Week at our school AND my niece is graduation this weekend to be a full-fledged teacher, so I've been busy creating gift card holders!  Here's where I started:

Stampin Up graduation gift card ideas Storybook Specialty Designer Series Paper Aqua Painters Classic Inks watercoloring

I thoroughly enjoyed myself while watercoloring these two Storybook Specialty Designer Series Paper card bases with my Aqua Painters and Classic Ink Pads.

Storybook Teacher Appreciation Week

The paper is in the 2009-2010 Idea Book & Catalog (the BIG book...it's a big download!) and is printed line-art watercolor paper with a color print on the other side of each sheet.  It's very heavyweight stuff and colors up nicely with your Aqua Painters.

To get my paint puddles for each Classic Ink, I squeeze my closed Classic Ink Pads at the logo several times to allow the ink pad to touch the inside of the lid.  Open it up and your ink is ready to pick up with the water-filled Aqua Painter!

I'll show you the finished gift cards using the Stampin' Up! Pop-Up Look Here Bigz XL Die soon!

Mojo Monday 137 Island Oasis Sentimental Journey

This is one of my favorite Mojo Monday sketch challenge cards so far!  (do I say that every time?)

Stampin Up MOJO137 Mojo Monday Island Oasis Sentimental Journey challenge card ideas Square Lattice Big Shot Folder

Probably because it makes me think of warmer weather (yep, it was snowing again this weekend!), and because I used several new Summer Mini Catalog goodies:  Island Oasis Designer Series Paper, the Sentimental Journey stamp set, and the Stampin' Up! Square Lattice Textured Impressions Embossing Folder!

MOJO137 Island Oasis Challenge Card

Here's how I made my card this morning:

  • Layer a 4" x 5-1/4" piece of Island Oasis Designer Series Paper leaf print onto a 4-1/8" x 5-3/8" Chocolate Chip Card Stock layer.
  • Run a 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" piece of Kraft Card Stock through your Big Shot Die-Cut Machine (you DO know about my fantabulous Big Shot Offer, don't you?) and your new Stampin' Up! Square Lattice Embossing Folder.  Looks like a grass mat, doesn't it?  Cut a 2-3/4" x 3" rectangle from it and punch a Scallop Oval shape from the remainder.  Sponge both pieces' edges and top surface light with Chocolate Chip Classic Ink.
  • Layer the rectangle on a 2-7/8" x 3-1/8" piece of Chocolate Chip Card Stock and adhere to the leaf print layer.
  • Punch four 1-1/4" Squares from the Island Oasis DSP tropical flower print, sponge the edges in Chocolate Chip Classic Ink, then layer onto a 1-3/8" x 5-1/8" strip of Chocolate Chip Card Stock.  Tie a length of Natural Hemp Twine around the top and knot on the front.  Layer over the rest with Stampin' Dimensionals.
  • Stamp the "Journey" greeting from the new Sentimental Journey stamp set in Chocolate Chip Classic Ink over Certainly Celery Card Stock, punch out with the Large Oval Punch, then ink edges with Chocolate Chip Classic Ink.  Layer onto the Scallop Oval piece and adhere to the card front layers with Stampin' Dimensionals.
  • Before attaching the card front layers to the So Saffron card base, attach three 5/16" Chocolate Chip Jumbo Brads to the lower right using your Paper-Piercing Tool and Mat Pack.
  • Be sure to stamp the back with your Stampin' Up! personalized stamp and sign your name, then you're done!

You can get ALL of these cool supplies from me at my Stampin' Up!
