Custom Wheel Inking Video Tutorial

A few Mojo Monday challenges ago I showed you a card that I made using a the Stampin' Around wheel from the Summer Mini Catalog called Red, White, & Blue #118622.  Here's the video showing you how I made the custom ink for it.

Custom Ink Pad for Stampin' Around Wheels

As I mention in the video, I think a felt surface would be best instead of the vellum...but I was winging it at the time!

Thanks for stopping by!  I hope you'll subscribe to my YouTube channel while you're there.

Kissing with Sweet Scoops

At my Stampin' Up! Hostess Clubs this month we learned all about kissing!

Stampin Up Hostess Clubs in Sturgis, Rapid City, and Black Hills South Dakota Sweet Scoops Kissing Technique

Kissing with stamps, that is!

Sweet Scoops Kissing Technique

The Kissing Technique is a fun way to get even more designs out of your stamps by enhancing or altering one image with another.  We used the Sweet Scoops stamp set from the Summer Mini Catalog for this bright card.

  1. Ink up your solid stamp with one color (I used Pretty in Pink on the solid ice cream scoop stamp).  Lay it down on your Grid Paper, face up.
  2. Ink up your second stamp with a contrasting color (in my case the texture stamp in Melon Mambo).
  3. Stamp the second stamp on to the first stamp that is on the table, being careful not to slide it around, just stamp straight down.  TIP:  Laying the one on the table and leaving it there instead of trying to hold the two reduces the chance of slippage/smearing.
  4. Now stamp that double-inked image onto your card stock for the completed image!  Pretty cool, huh? It's a bit of a shortcut to masking in a way...I like shortcuts!  Just be sure to clean your double-inked stamp in between each time so you don't get the darker ink on your lighter ink pad.
I'll have the other card later, plus a 2stampis2b YouTube video on the Kissing Technique as soon as I get it edited.

KWernerDesign Reader's Choice #2 Color Challenge

Fun colors for Kristina Werner's color challenge today!

Stampin Up Kristina Werner Color Challenge Card Ideas Elements of Style Watercoloring Itty Bitty Bits Buttons Square Lattice Big Shot Dies

Elements of Style Watercolor

Elements of Style is such a beautiful stamp set!  I can't stop using it!

  • This time I used Watercolor Paper from Stampin' Up! and my Aqua Painter in Kristina's colors to create this Old World looking card (think stucco and climbing roses).
  • I also finally used a trio of Bitty Buttons, the Itty Bitty Bits stamp set, and the Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack that I ordered from the Summer Mini Catalog...fun combo!
  • Do you like the touches of White uni-ball Signo Gel Pen around the card?  I did some faux stitching around the Kraft card base, then some graduated dots on the bright Summer Sun greeting box.
  • My "stucco" is White StazOn ink brushed over the Square Lattice-embossed (this folder is ONLY available from Stampin' Up!) Ballet Blue card stock, and the edges are either distressed with my Cutter Kit (LOVE IT) or torn by hand.
  • Some Crystal Effects over the wild roses and dogwood-ish flowers and leaves give the rustic elements a touch of polish and freshness.
Do you like?  Does it get you in the mood for a European vacation?  Click if you'd like to see some of my  other challenge projects, which I'm having a blast creating!

On a side note, today is a certain goal deadline with Stampin' Up! that I would LOVE to meet (Stampin' Up! is SO good to us!).  If you have been envious of all the wonderful benefits that I get as a Stampin' Up! demonstrator, please consider joining before the end of the day and make us BOTH happy!  I would absolutely LOVE to have you join my group!

Presto Patterns Emboss Resist

At Hostess Club this month we were all about the emboss resist technique.  This is one of the cards we made.

Stampin Up Hostess Club Card Ideas Presto Patterns Square Lattice

We sponged several Classic Ink colors over the new Presto Patterns Specialty Designer Series Paper (available in the new Summer Mini Catalog) for this look.

Presto Patterns Emboss Resist

  • For the emboss resist technique, you can make your own resist by heat embossing card stock with Stampin' Emboss Powder and your Heat Tool, or you can start with pre-made embossed card stock like we did with the above card.
  • When you sponge Classic Ink over the embossed pattern, the underlying card stock picks up the color but the embossing doesn't take the color, it resists it, revealing the embossed pattern!
  • I also used my new favorite Embossing Folder, Square Lattice, available exclusively from Stampin' Up!

What is a Hostess Club? It's a great way to budget and build up your Stampin' Up! supplies by getting together at least 6 of your friends for the club and meeting each month to learn new techniques while making a few projects. You meet once a month until everyone has been the hostess, ordering a minimum of $25 in Stampin' Up! product while taking turns being the hostess and getting the Hostess Rewards for your month!  If you live in Rapid City, SD or the Black Hills, just let me know if you'd like to participate in or start a Hostess Club!

My Favorite Summer Mini Stamp Set

...is Elements of Style!

Elements of Style Stamp Set

This gorgeous stamp set that is in the new Summer Mini Catalog from Stampin' Up! reminds me of the wild yellow roses that adorned the Sturgis, SD neighborhood I grew up in, and those that grow on my grandparent's place in Piedmont.  Up here in the mountains of the Black Hills where we live, there are several pink rose varieties that grow wild.

The hummingbird is precious (I'm a birder so I LOVE hummingbirds!), the greetings are versatile, and the flourish makes a wonderful background stamp or can be colored with markers for a multi-colored image!

In fact, if I could only order ONE stamp set in the Summer Mini, this one would be IT!  Click to see the projects I've made with the Summer Mini Catalog products so far, and if you'd like to see the projects I've made using the Elements of Style stamp set, you can type "elements of style" in the Search My Blog box on the sidebar.

Here's my favorite so far that I've made with this stamp set:

Stampin' Up! Elements of Style in Baja Breeze and Kiwi Kiss by Michelle Tech 2stampis2b

You can order this gorgeous stamp set from me RIGHT NOW by clicking over to my Stampin' Up! shop and typing in or copying and pasting these numbers:  #118611 for the wood-mount set or #120045 for the clear-mount set, your choice.  The Spanish sets are #119910 (W) and #120105 (C), and the French versions are #119900 (W) and #120099 (C).

MOJO139 Sentimental Island Oasis Journey

It's finally feeling like spring and nearly summer here in the Black Hills, even though we just had 8" of snow last week!  Over the weekend I got my deck flower pots filled and our creek running through our mountain property is full!  The forest smells so good in spring after a long winter!

Stampin' Up! Mojo Monday MOJO139 PPA42 Island Oasis Sentimental Journey Top Note Challenge Card Ideas

The warm weather makes me think of a Sentimental Journey to an Island Oasis!  In a Word...sunny!

MOJO139 & PPA42 Challenge Card

That's right...today I combined the sketch from Mojo Monday and the color challenge from Pals Paper Arts to create this one dreamy card!  I love the bright challenge colors that match the Island Oasis Designer Series Paper from the Summer Mini Catalog.

To create that "Love Boat" feel around the Sentimental Journey cruise ship stamp, I created 3 graduated sizes of post-it note masks around the shape (for the smallest one I traced around my clear-mount stamp), then sponged the Classic Inks starting from the outside in!

Check out my other challenge cards!

Are you like me and LOVE the Top Note Die that is exclusive to Stampin' Up!?  If you buy the Big Shot Die-Cut Machine from me you'll get free gifts worth $147!  Click to see the details and what you'll get for FREE!

KWernerDesign Reader's Choice #1 Color Challenge

I was inspired by Kristina Werner's color challenge to make this card, using her color swatch combo:

Stampin' Up! KWernerDesigns Color Challenge Elements of Style Kiwi Kiss Baja Breeze

Pretty colors!  Baja Breeze, Kiwi Kiss, Regal Rose, Pretty in Pink, Basic Gray, and Whisper White!

Baja Breeze is Coming Back!

Baja Breeze was one of my favorite past Stampin' Up! In Colors, and I think between that and Kiwi Kiss I just HAD to participate in Kristina Werner's challenge!  I worked in the new Elements of Style stamp set and Square Lattice Big Shot embossing folder from the new Summer Mini Catalog.

I used markers to color on the stamp, then spritzed with a fine mist of water to give it a watercolor look.  The Big Shot Stampin' Up! Top Note Die and some sponging with Classic Inks plus edge distressing with the Cutter Kit make the card.

Please let me know what you think!  You can also see my other challenge cards I've made.

We have 3 graduates in our family this spring!

Stampin Up Happy Graduation Gift Card Holder Travel Journal Sentimental Journey 2stampis2b

I put my Look Here Bigz XL Big Shot Die into service once again for the gift card insides!  It's a clever but easy way to hold the gift card up when the graduate opens the card.

Stampin Up Happy Graduation Gift Card Holder Travel Journal Sentimental Journey Look Here Big Shot Die 2stampis2b

Look Here Happy Graduation Gift Cards

I love that Stampin' Up! has a la carte stamps now:  I embossed the new Happy Grad stamp from the Summer Mini Catalog onto the also-new Travel Journal Designer Series Paper, perfect for signifying new directions.

On the inside I stamped Sentimental Journey images in VersaMark ink, leaving plenty of room for a handwritten sentiment.

Do you think the graduates will appreciate their gift cards a teensy bit more since they've been handmade using Stampin' Up! goodies?  I think so!

MOJO138 Sweet Razzleberry Scoops

This weeks Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge was a square card, which I don't make often enough.

Stampin Up 2stampis2b Michelle Tech MOJO138 Mojo Monday 138 Challenge Card Sweet Scoops Razzleberry Lemonade Kissing Technique

I finally mounted my Sweet Scoops stamp set that I got for free while in Phoenix for Stampin' Up! Leadership and the Regional Convention!

Mojo Monday Sweet Razzleberry Scoops

I used the Kissing Technique for the ice cream scoops, something this stamp set is made for.  I recorded a short video tutorial while doing it that I'll load to my 2stampis2b YouTube channel when I get a chance.  BUT, my 'puter is giving me blue screens of death left and right, so this week I'll have a little extra to do :-)...so I'll be limping along here and will get that video up ASAP.

Until then, here's a brief description on how you do the Kissing Technique:
  1. Ink up your solid stamp in one color (the scoop background shape).
  2. Ink up the textured stamp in a second color (the zebra stripe).
  3. Stamp the texture onto the stamp surface of the scoop shape to lay color over it.
  4. Stamp the double-colored image onto your card stock!  Easy peasy!

Make sure you visit my blog post with blog candy details!
