MOJO143 Homemade Sneak Peek

It's Mojo Monday Challenge time again!

Stampin Up Sneak Peek Mojo Monday MOJO143 Artistic Etchings Homemade Cajun Craze Cherry Cobbler Punches

This time I thought I'd try out some of my new Stampin' Up! Sneak Peek stuff...

Mojo Monday 143 Homemade Sneak Peek

As you may know, Stampin' Up! is renovating our Color Collections, saying farewell to some and hello to several new ones.  In my Mojo Monday 143 challenge card I've used three of the new colors that you will be able to get your hands on starting July 1st (unless you're a Stampin' Up! demonstrator or become one this month with the $99 Starter Kit that is on special...then of course you can already order yours!).

  • Cajun Craze, Cherry Cobbler, and Daffodil Delight seemed just right for this new stamp Homemade #116978 and new matching 2-3/8" Scallop Circle Extra-Large Punch #118874!
  • I also used the gorgeous medallion stamp from the new Artistic Etchings #118517 stamp set for the background, using Cajun Craze ink on the Cajun Craze card stock.
  • Chocolate Chip Satin Ribbon and Black Brads team up with a little distressing with the Cutter Kit to finish off my handmade card.

Do you love the new Sneak Peek goodies?  You could see a little more from my other challenge cards :-).

Favorite Retiring Designer Series Paper

The new annual Stampin' Up! Idea Book & Catalog comes out in just a few weeks on July 1st.  I got my advance copy on Monday (one of the many great perks of being a Stampin' Up! demonstrator!) and it's the BEST EVER!  But there are some things retiring at the end of June that I will REALLY miss!  I've already mentioned the stamp set that I'll be sad to see leave the lineup, so what Designer Series Paper do you think is my fave?

It's between these two:
Storybook Specialty Designer Series Paper #115679

The Write Stuff Specialty Designer Series Paper #115674

I'll be sad to see both of these Designer Series Paper sets go!

Retiring Designer Series Paper

The good news is that we now have a digital kit for The Write Stuff #120881, so THAT will always be in your digital toolkit (click to mosey over to my Digital Papercrafting website to see ALL of the digital downloads you can order from me):

What is YOUR favorite Designer Series Paper set from Stampin' Up!?

You only have until the end of June (or sooner if it sells out!!!!!) to stock up on your faves!  Click to order online to snag it before it's gone, and add any stamp sets, accessories, and Definitely Decorative elements that are retiring, and don't forget to browse the Clearance Rack to see if there's anything in there you'd like, too!  It all ships straight to your doorstep!

Thanks so much for supporting my stamping business, it's what I do and I LOVE IT!

Extreme Elements of Style & a Giveaway

The new Stampin' Up! Summer Mini Catalog went LIVE for ordering today!!!  If you've ordered from me before, you should have gotten yours in your snail mail very recently.  Now, stick around...I'm giving away a random prize as blog candy!  All you have to do is answer 2 easy questions in the comments.

Stampin Up Extreme Elements of Style Beautiful Butterflies Big Shot Summer Mini Catalog Card Cracked Glass Favorite Thoughts Blog Candy Giveaway Prize Welcome Neighbor Paper

I love how the butterfly turned out on my card.  I copied the design (it's called CASE-ing) from the new Summer Mini Catalog that went live today, but used my own colors.  I LOVE that Stampin' Up! has samples on every page of their catalogs!!!

Here's how YOU can make your own:

  1. Cut a folded piece of Confetti Cream Card Stock with the Stampin' Up! Beautiful Butterflies Bigz Die and your Big Shot Die-Cut Machine, unfold the large butterfly.
  2. Ink up the wild rose stamp from Elements of Style (I got this free by attending the Stampin' Up! Leadership Conference at Phoenix in January...it ROCKS being a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator...will you be my Stampin' Up! girlfriend?!) with the Always Artichoke and Perfect Plum Stampin' Write Markers, spray the inked rubber with a fine water mist from a distance of about 12" away, then stamp on large butterfly you cut out.  You can stamp off once on a piece of scratch paper if you'd like the image to be more subtle.  Spraying with a mist of water gives the image an easy watercolor look.
  3. In Basic Black Classic Ink, stamp the "Don't treat me any differently than you would a queen!" greeting from the new Favorite Thoughts Summer Mini Catalog stamp set over the top of the flower image.
  4. To make the cracked glass coating on the butterfly, you're going to turn your VersaMark pad upside down and press the clear ink all over the butterfly (have Grid Paper underneath...I can't LIVE without Grid Paper!), then heat emboss some Glassy Glaze Enamel Stampin' Emboss Powder over it...then while that is still hot (be VERY quick about this!), cover it with MORE Glassy Glaze Enamel powder and heat again.  Repeat until the card stock is all covered, maybe 3, 4, or even 5 times.  If your fingers get too hot do one wing at a time.  Put the butterfly in the freezer for a few minutes, then take it out and crack the enamel to make it look antique!  Pretty cool, huh?
  5. To finish off the card I stamped the flourish in VersaMark ink on the 3-1/2" x 4" Almost Amethyst Card Stock, then stamped the crown from Extreme Elements in Basic Black Classic I ink.  With SNAIL Adhesive I layered this on top of 3-5/8" x 4-1/8" Mellow Moss and then 3-3/4" x 4-1/4" Confetti Cream Card Stock pieces.
  6. Attach a lilac Square Ice Rhinestone Brad to the crown and through all layers using your Paper-Piercing Tool and Mat Pack, then staple two 1-1/2" long pieces of Mellow Moss Taffeta Ribbon to the bottom and trim at an angle.
  7. Using Stampin' Dimensionals, adhere your butterfly to this, then adhere the whole assembly to the Kraft Card Stock base!
  8. Always stamp the back of your cards with your Stampin' Up! personalized stamp (pages 136-7 in your 2009-2010 Idea Book & Catalog) and sign it by that stamp!

Extreme Elements of Style Summer Mini

Now for the prize giveaway:

To win my last Welcome Neighbor Designer Series Paper Pad, all you have to do is answer the following questions in the comments section of this blog post (not on my facebook page, although I love comments there too!):

  1. What page in the Summer Mini Catalog is the card I CASEd on?
  2. What is YOUR favorite project sample in the Summer Mini?
It's THAT easy to win!  You don't have to order to win {it DOES keep me motivated to create projects for you every day here at my blog :-)}, but if you're wanting to order from the Summer Mini, you can do so NOW online and get your goodies on their way to YOUR doorstep to begin making your own cool projects with the new stuff.

Make sure you keep coming back to find out if you've won!  The best way is to subscribe to my blog via e-mail or reader from my sidebar widget.  I'll announce the winner sometime next week and will give the potential winner 24 hours to respond or will draw using random.org again.

GOOD LUCK!

Stamping Green

It's Earth Day, what are you doing to make a difference today?  My family will walk our mountain roads and pick up garbage, in addition to our daily recycling efforts.

Be Kind to Our Earth

Stampin' Up! Green Practices

Here are a few things that Stampin' Up! does to try to make a difference in the environment and conserve energy:

  • Rubber:  Stampin' Up! donates excess rubber from manufacturing to Courage Reins, a nonprofit organization providing horseback riding therapy to physically and mentally challenged children.  The organization funds their programs from the sales of the ground rubber used in playgrounds and horse stables.
  • Wood Blocks:  Wood blocks are created from a renewable source using sustainable practices:  a maple tree farm grows them specifically for the purpose of harvesting wood.
  • Card Stock and Paper:  The paper used for shipping with Stampin' Up! is 100% recycled, and our cardstock contains recycled paper, too!  In fact, Basic Black is our greenest color because the darker shades use the most recycled paper in them.  Also, our paper broker is certified to help ensure that our paper and card stock mills use paper from sustainably managed forests and that the mills are taking steps to lessen their carbon footprint.  One of the mills even generates their own power!
  • Buildings:  Stampin' Up! facilities use geothermal wells to reduce the consumption of heating oil or natural gas, lights are on sensors and timers to reduce the use of electricity, filters are in place to reduce any air pollution that stamp production may create, native water-wise plants are used in landscaping, and sprinklers minimize evaporation.
  • Carbon footprint:  Shipping practices are designed to reduce the carbon footprint, including using non-peak traffic hours with UPS, and carpooling stamp facility transfers with otherwise-empty Sysco food delivery trucks!
As an environmental engineer myself, I am proud of Stampin' Up! and their efforts to continually implement ways to improve their business practices to do what's right for our environment!

Last week I got my Stampin' Up! demonstrator pre-order from the upcoming Summer Mini Catalog and hadn't had time to play until the Mojo Monday challenge inspired me today.  I immediately knew I wanted to use the Sentimental Journey stamp set, Travel Journal Designer Series Paper, and matching Itty Bitty Bits stamp set, Bitty Buttons, and Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack!  These new goodies will be available to order for customers starting May 1st.  If you're a demonstrator like me you can pre-order a month before!  It only takes about 30 minutes to sign up!

The color combination of this patterned paper is awesome!  I pulled in some Vellum Card Stock, Bashful Blue Satin Ribbon, and Pumpkin Pie, Bashful Blue, and Night of Navy Card Stock to match.

  • To simulate the stamped shape in the challenge sketch I used my Pinking Hearts Corner Punch on the 4 corners of the square Vellum Card Stock.
  • I used the Scallop Trim Border Punch on the Bashful Blue Card Stock layer in the horizontal strip.
  • The suitcase was stamped in VersaMark ink and heat embossed with White Stampin' Emboss Powder.
  • I used my Horizontal Slot Punch at the top fold of the card to make room for the ribbon to thread through to the back and tie in front.
  • The star button was created by stamping one of the Itty Bitty Bits stamps in Night of Navy Classic Ink on Pumpkin Pie Card Stock, punched it out using the Itty Bitty Shapes Circle Punch then I used a Mini Glue Dot to adhere the Bitty Button circle over it!

If you've ordered from me before, you should be receiving your Summer Mini Catalog in your mailbox soon (the snail mail!).  Get your pencil sharpened because your Wish List is going to fill up!
