Mother's Day Paper Flower Corsage

I made these paper corsages for my mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother for Mother's Day.  Each year we attend the Sturgis Mother-Daughter Banquet put on by my church.  The men serve dinner and then we are entertained with a variety show put on by the members of the church, including the kids.  I remember being in the productions when I was little, too.

Stampin Up 2stampis2b Pinking Hearts Oval Ornament Punch Mothers Day Paper Corsage

Stampin' Up! Paper Flower Corsage

To make the magnolia, I cut one 1-3/8" Circle and 15 Ornament Punch shapes from Blush Blossom Card Stock, then sponged the edges with Cameo Coral Classic Ink.  Then I curled each "petal" with Bone Folder before adhering the Ornament Punch tabs of each one to the circle base using Tombow Multi Purpose Adhesive.

Stampin Up 2stampis2b Ornament Punch Magnolia Mothers Day Paper Corsage

For the each carnation I cut a strip of Cameo Coral Card Stock to 1-1/2" x 3", decorated on long edge with the Pinking Hearts Border Punch and sponged that edge.  I affixed a strip of Sticky Strip to the other long edge then accordian folded it before taking off the liner and squeezing it shut.  Then I treated a 1-1/4" x 3" piece of Garden Green Card Stock similarly, pinking one short edge, then wrapped it to create the stem, as shown:

Stampin Up 2stampis2b Pinking Hearts Punch Carnation Mothers Day Paper Corsage

The Apricot Appeal Card Stock lily is made with three Large Oval Punch shapes, scored down the middle lengthwise and curled with the Bone Folder, then wrapped around a sliver of Only Orange Card Stock stamen and given a stem like the carnation, but without pinked edges.  I added a Summer Sun Corduroy Button to the magnolia centers and added Garden Green Card Stock greenery sprays with the Extra Large Two-Step Bird Punch.  I reinforced the flowers and stems with a generous amount of Crystal Effects, then spritzed the corsage with Frost White Shimmer Spray that I showed you how to make in my video tutorial on YouTube.  A round of felt on the back allowed the corsage to be pinned on, while hiding the stems on the back.  I bagged them each in a Large Flat Cello Bag for transport and safekeeping.

I think the mothers really like them!

MOJO138 Sweet Razzleberry Scoops

This weeks Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge was a square card, which I don't make often enough.

Stampin Up 2stampis2b Michelle Tech MOJO138 Mojo Monday 138 Challenge Card Sweet Scoops Razzleberry Lemonade Kissing Technique

I finally mounted my Sweet Scoops stamp set that I got for free while in Phoenix for Stampin' Up! Leadership and the Regional Convention!

Mojo Monday Sweet Razzleberry Scoops

I used the Kissing Technique for the ice cream scoops, something this stamp set is made for.  I recorded a short video tutorial while doing it that I'll load to my 2stampis2b YouTube channel when I get a chance.  BUT, my 'puter is giving me blue screens of death left and right, so this week I'll have a little extra to do :-)...so I'll be limping along here and will get that video up ASAP.

Until then, here's a brief description on how you do the Kissing Technique:
  1. Ink up your solid stamp in one color (the scoop background shape).
  2. Ink up the textured stamp in a second color (the zebra stripe).
  3. Stamp the texture onto the stamp surface of the scoop shape to lay color over it.
  4. Stamp the double-colored image onto your card stock!  Easy peasy!

Make sure you visit my blog post with blog candy details!

Teacher Appreciation Week

It's Teacher Appreciation Week at our school AND my niece is graduation this weekend to be a full-fledged teacher, so I've been busy creating gift card holders!  Here's where I started:

Stampin Up graduation gift card ideas Storybook Specialty Designer Series Paper Aqua Painters Classic Inks watercoloring

I thoroughly enjoyed myself while watercoloring these two Storybook Specialty Designer Series Paper card bases with my Aqua Painters and Classic Ink Pads.

Storybook Teacher Appreciation Week

The paper is in the 2009-2010 Idea Book & Catalog (the BIG book...it's a big download!) and is printed line-art watercolor paper with a color print on the other side of each sheet.  It's very heavyweight stuff and colors up nicely with your Aqua Painters.

To get my paint puddles for each Classic Ink, I squeeze my closed Classic Ink Pads at the logo several times to allow the ink pad to touch the inside of the lid.  Open it up and your ink is ready to pick up with the water-filled Aqua Painter!

I'll show you the finished gift cards using the Stampin' Up! Pop-Up Look Here Bigz XL Die soon!

Mojo Monday 137 Island Oasis Sentimental Journey

This is one of my favorite Mojo Monday sketch challenge cards so far!  (do I say that every time?)

Stampin Up MOJO137 Mojo Monday Island Oasis Sentimental Journey challenge card ideas Square Lattice Big Shot Folder

Probably because it makes me think of warmer weather (yep, it was snowing again this weekend!), and because I used several new Summer Mini Catalog goodies:  Island Oasis Designer Series Paper, the Sentimental Journey stamp set, and the Stampin' Up! Square Lattice Textured Impressions Embossing Folder!

MOJO137 Island Oasis Challenge Card

Here's how I made my card this morning:

  • Layer a 4" x 5-1/4" piece of Island Oasis Designer Series Paper leaf print onto a 4-1/8" x 5-3/8" Chocolate Chip Card Stock layer.
  • Run a 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" piece of Kraft Card Stock through your Big Shot Die-Cut Machine (you DO know about my fantabulous Big Shot Offer, don't you?) and your new Stampin' Up! Square Lattice Embossing Folder.  Looks like a grass mat, doesn't it?  Cut a 2-3/4" x 3" rectangle from it and punch a Scallop Oval shape from the remainder.  Sponge both pieces' edges and top surface light with Chocolate Chip Classic Ink.
  • Layer the rectangle on a 2-7/8" x 3-1/8" piece of Chocolate Chip Card Stock and adhere to the leaf print layer.
  • Punch four 1-1/4" Squares from the Island Oasis DSP tropical flower print, sponge the edges in Chocolate Chip Classic Ink, then layer onto a 1-3/8" x 5-1/8" strip of Chocolate Chip Card Stock.  Tie a length of Natural Hemp Twine around the top and knot on the front.  Layer over the rest with Stampin' Dimensionals.
  • Stamp the "Journey" greeting from the new Sentimental Journey stamp set in Chocolate Chip Classic Ink over Certainly Celery Card Stock, punch out with the Large Oval Punch, then ink edges with Chocolate Chip Classic Ink.  Layer onto the Scallop Oval piece and adhere to the card front layers with Stampin' Dimensionals.
  • Before attaching the card front layers to the So Saffron card base, attach three 5/16" Chocolate Chip Jumbo Brads to the lower right using your Paper-Piercing Tool and Mat Pack.
  • Be sure to stamp the back with your Stampin' Up! personalized stamp and sign your name, then you're done!

You can get ALL of these cool supplies from me at my Stampin' Up! Shop, and they ship directly to your door!  Just look below for the item numbers for copying and pasting in my shop's search box to make it even quicker and easier!  I REALLY appreciate you supporting my stamping business and all the hard work I put into it to bring you new projects each day!  Have a great week!

Be sure to enter to win my blog candy giveaway from Saturday here!  It's as easy as posting a comment, and I DO love to hear from you!

Extreme Elements of Style & a Giveaway

The new Stampin' Up! Summer Mini Catalog went LIVE for ordering today!!!  If you've ordered from me before, you should have gotten yours in your snail mail very recently.  Now, stick around...I'm giving away a random prize as blog candy!  All you have to do is answer 2 easy questions in the comments.

Stampin Up Extreme Elements of Style Beautiful Butterflies Big Shot Summer Mini Catalog Card Cracked Glass Favorite Thoughts Blog Candy Giveaway Prize Welcome Neighbor Paper

I love how the butterfly turned out on my card.  I copied the design (it's called CASE-ing) from the new Summer Mini Catalog that went live today, but used my own colors.  I LOVE that Stampin' Up! has samples on every page of their catalogs!!!

Here's how YOU can make your own:

  1. Cut a folded piece of Confetti Cream Card Stock with the Stampin' Up! Beautiful Butterflies Bigz Die and your Big Shot Die-Cut Machine, unfold the large butterfly.
  2. Ink up the wild rose stamp from Elements of Style (I got this free by attending the Stampin' Up! Leadership Conference at Phoenix in January...it ROCKS being a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator...will you be my Stampin' Up! girlfriend?!) with the Always Artichoke and Perfect Plum Stampin' Write Markers, spray the inked rubber with a fine water mist from a distance of about 12" away, then stamp on large butterfly you cut out.  You can stamp off once on a piece of scratch paper if you'd like the image to be more subtle.  Spraying with a mist of water gives the image an easy watercolor look.
  3. In Basic Black Classic Ink, stamp the "Don't treat me any differently than you would a queen!" greeting from the new Favorite Thoughts Summer Mini Catalog stamp set over the top of the flower image.
  4. To make the cracked glass coating on the butterfly, you're going to turn your VersaMark pad upside down and press the clear ink all over the butterfly (have Grid Paper underneath...I can't LIVE without Grid Paper!), then heat emboss some Glassy Glaze Enamel Stampin' Emboss Powder over it...then while that is still hot (be VERY quick about this!), cover it with MORE Glassy Glaze Enamel powder and heat again.  Repeat until the card stock is all covered, maybe 3, 4, or even 5 times.  If your fingers get too hot do one wing at a time.  Put the butterfly in the freezer for a few minutes, then take it out and crack the enamel to make it look antique!  Pretty cool, huh?
  5. To finish off the card I stamped the flourish in VersaMark ink on the 3-1/2" x 4" Almost Amethyst Card Stock, then stamped the crown from Extreme Elements in Basic Black Classic I ink.  With SNAIL Adhesive I layered this on top of 3-5/8" x 4-1/8" Mellow Moss and then 3-3/4" x 4-1/4" Confetti Cream Card Stock pieces.
  6. Attach a lilac Square Ice Rhinestone Brad to the crown and through all layers using your Paper-Piercing Tool and Mat Pack, then staple two 1-1/2" long pieces of Mellow Moss Taffeta Ribbon to the bottom and trim at an angle.
  7. Using Stampin' Dimensionals, adhere your butterfly to this, then adhere the whole assembly to the Kraft Card Stock base!
  8. Always stamp the back of your cards with your Stampin' Up! personalized stamp (pages 136-7 in your 2009-2010 Idea Book & Catalog) and sign it by that stamp!

Extreme Elements of Style Summer Mini

Now for the prize giveaway:

To win my last Welcome Neighbor Designer Series Paper Pad, all you have to do is answer the following questions in the comments section of this blog post (not on my facebook page, although I love comments there too!):

  1. What page in the Summer Mini Catalog is the card I CASEd on?
  2. What is YOUR favorite project sample in the Summer Mini?
It's THAT easy to win!  You don't have to order to win {it DOES keep me motivated to create projects for you every day here at my blog :-)}, but if you're wanting to order from the Summer Mini, you can do so NOW online and get your goodies on their way to YOUR doorstep to begin making your own cool projects with the new stuff.

Make sure you keep coming back to find out if you've won!  The best way is to subscribe to my blog via e-mail or reader from my sidebar widget.  I'll announce the winner sometime next week and will give the potential winner 24 hours to respond or will draw using random.org again.

GOOD LUCK!

Big Shot Fabric Flower Pin Tutorial

The Big Shot isn’t just for cutting paper shapes! Try your hand at cutting fabric shapes with your Big Shot to make this whimsical fabric flower brooch.

Step-by-step Big Shot Fabric Flower Pin Tutorial

1. Cut 3 layers of tulle with the Scallop Circles #2 Bigz Die, and cut up to 8 layers of cotton fabric at a time with the Circles #2 Originals Die (I cut 2 layers of two different prints and had extra circles left over).  Lay them out, alternating fabric and tulle layers while offsetting the circles for a whimsical look.

Stampin Up Big Shot Flower Pin Tutorial Step 1

2.  Using linen thread and a large needle, sew the Pretty in Pink corduroy button through all the layers to hold the brooch together. Knot the linen thread on the front and tie an extra piece into a bow. Trim ends.

Stampin Up Big Shot Flower Pin Tutorial Step 2

3.  Cut two slits on one more large fabric circle for the pin back to slide through, hiding the bar behind the circle. Adhere the pin back and fabric circle to the back of the flower brooch with a hot glue gun.

Stampin Up Big Shot Flower Pin Tutorial Step 3

4.  Wear with pride!  YOU made it!

Stampin Up Sponge Organization Containers

Remember my Video Tutorial on Organizing your Stamping Sponges last week?  Well I found a great way to store them!

Stampin Up Sponge Organization SnapWare

SnapWare Stamping Sponge Storage

I bought 2 SnapWare containers at a local big box craft store and sacrified one of the lids so that I could have 4 layers that snap together:  2 that are divided for the 4 Stampin' Up! color families, 1 layer for my neutrals and In Colors, and one layer to hold my repurposed empty button containers that hold my 3 Shimmer Paint sponges and sponge daubers.  (For those you can see that I've punched a 1-3/4" Real Red circle, embossed it with the Finial Press folder in my Big Shot, then sponged the appropriate Shimmer Paint color over that to indicate what's inside.)

Have you come up with any ideas on how to store your Stamping Sponges?
