On the First Day of Christmas

On the first day of Christmas, my true friend gave to me

A Handmade Holiday Planner!

I hope you'll join me over the next several days for my rendition of the Twelve Days of Christmas, done up the Stampin' Up! way.

First, some trivia about the Twelve Days of Christmas from Wikipedia:

The Twelve Days of Christmas, and the associated evenings of those twelve days (Twelve-tide), are the festive days beginning the evening of Christmas Day (December 25) through the morning of Epiphany (January 6). The associated evenings of the twelve days begin on the evening before the specified day. Thus, the first night of Christmas is December 25–26, and Twelfth Night is January 5–6. This period is also known as Christmastide.

So I'm a little early, but I wanted to give you plenty of time to create your own Twelve Days of Christmas!

Now, ON to the Holiday Planner:

I started with 2 sheets of 12 x 11 cardstock, scored along the bottoms at 3 inches and folded up to create pockets, and then at 3, 6, and 9 inches from the top to bottom of each piece, folding in an accordian style. I attached the wallet-sized calender sheets printed from MS Publisher with 2 brads, then set 2 jumbo eyelets, one on what will be the front cover and one on the back cover, for tying the planner shut.

My front cover decorative layer is 2-3/4 x 7-3/4 with a partial circle punched out to allow for the jumbo eyelet. The skinny notebook is a junior steno notebook, cut in half by Office Depot and decorated with DSP at the top binding.

I used Sticky Strip on the 4 folded up raw side edges that make the pockets, then I used Sticky Strip on the first panel of the right hand piece to attach the left hand piece's last panel firmly to make one continuous piece.

My Holiday Planner has a "To Do" notebook, November to January tear-off calendar, a receipts envelope, and several planning cards.

The planning cards are each 2-1/4 x 7-3/4 printed on white cardstock with text from MS Publisher and dressed up with a strip of DSP, then mounted on 2-1/2 x 8 Kraft cardstock that has been scalloped on the top edge with the Scallop Edge Punch and inked with a Sponge Dauber.

Edited to add: I've had requests for the printed cards, so I am providing them here for you to download. There is no cost unless you want to Donate to my Paypal Tip Jar on my sidebar. It's totally voluntary and I'm not requiring payment for the Planning Cards.

There are Wish Lists for each person in our family in the same pocket.

The Receipts envelope is an Open-Ended envelope, cut down lengthwise to fit in a pocket and retaped up the side with Sticky Strip, and the flap was covered with DSP and stamped, along with the planner pockets.

Lastly, I used Sticky Strip to adhere the spine together, then added some Kraft Taffeta Ribbon to the inside front and back covers under the planning cards using Sticky Strip, threading the ribbon through the jumbo eyelets for tying the planner shut.

I hope you like it and are inspired to create your own!
