Mojo Monday 136 Message for Mom

Time for another Mojo Monday sketch challenge card!

Mother's Day is just around the corner and I wanted to make a spring card to forget about the snowflakes in the air yesterday and today!

Mojo Monday 136 Messages for Mom

Here's how I made this card:

1. Folded a 8-1/2 x 4-1/2 Mellow Moss card base in half and ran it through my Scallop Bigz Die with the fold just inside the cut shape.
2. With my Circle Scissors Plus, I cut an Only Orange circle to 3-7/8".  Tip of the day on being extra happy with your Circle Scissors Plus:  Spray your Glass Mat with spray adhesive so the card stock grabs to it and doesn't slide around when cutting.
3. Cut a 2" tall piece of Sweet Pea Designer Series Paper and layered it with SNAIL Adhesive over a Messages for Mom stamped greeting in Chocolate Chip Classic Ink on a Pinking Hearts Border Punched strip of Whisper White Card Stock that was daubed with Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint.
4. Turn the circle over and trim the excess with your Paper Snips.
5. Adhere a piece of Mellow Moss Taffeta Ribbon over the bottom Sweet Pea DSP seam, attach a bow and then a Fresh Favorites II button with a Linen Thread bow tied in it with Mini Glue Dots.
6. Add self-stick rhinestones from the Eggcellent Eggs Kit above the greeting.
7. For the gorgeous flower, punch 8 Extra Large Fancy Flower Punch shapes from Barely Banana Card Stock, then spray with Champagne Mist Shimmer Spray (see my YouTube Episode #12 Shimmer Spray for how to make your own) and crumple each flower.  Uncrumple, layer the 8 together, then poke a hole in the center with your Paper-Piercing Tool and insert a Brad (doesn't matter which color as it will be hidden when finished).  Starting with the top flower, crumple into a tight ball towards the center, then repeat for each layer until you get to the back.  Spray again with Champagne Mist Shimmer Spray, let dry a few minutes, then attach to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals.
8. Make sure you stamp the back of your creation with your personalized stamp and you're done!

February Card Kits

I have just a few February card kits remaining, and wanted to show you how you can alter them as you wish since they were St. Patrick's Day designs.  Here, I omitted the Pumpkin Pie buttons and stamped everyday phrases on them with the Define Your Life stamp set instead of the Going Green stamp.

I stamped the Whisper White background piece with the Circle Circus stamp set instead of sponging shamrocks like the card kit shows.  I used Pumpkin Pie, Old Olive, Taken with Teal, and Certainly Celery Classic Inks.

Stamping Green

It's Earth Day, what are you doing to make a difference today?  My family will walk our mountain roads and pick up garbage, in addition to our daily recycling efforts.

Stampin' Up! Green Practices

Here are a few things that Stampin' Up! does to try to make a difference in the environment and conserve energy:

• Rubber:  Stampin' Up! donates excess rubber from manufacturing to Courage Reins, a nonprofit organization providing horseback riding therapy to physically and mentally challenged children.  The organization funds their programs from the sales of the ground rubber used in playgrounds and horse stables.
• Wood Blocks:  Wood blocks are created from a renewable source using sustainable practices:  a maple tree farm grows them specifically for the purpose of harvesting wood.
• Card Stock and Paper:  The paper used for shipping with Stampin' Up! is 100% recycled, and our cardstock contains recycled paper, too!  In fact, Basic Black is our greenest color because the darker shades use the most recycled paper in them.  Also, our paper broker is certified to help ensure that our paper and card stock mills use paper from sustainably managed forests and that the mills are taking steps to lessen their carbon footprint.  One of the mills even generates their own power!
• Buildings:  Stampin' Up! facilities use geothermal wells to reduce the consumption of heating oil or natural gas, lights are on sensors and timers to reduce the use of electricity, filters are in place to reduce any air pollution that stamp production may create, native water-wise plants are used in landscaping, and sprinklers minimize evaporation.
• Carbon footprint:  Shipping practices are designed to reduce the carbon footprint, including using non-peak traffic hours with UPS, and carpooling stamp facility transfers with otherwise-empty Sysco food delivery trucks!

As an environmental engineer myself, I am proud of Stampin' Up! and their efforts to continually implement ways to improve their business practices to do what's right for our environment!

A few days ago I had a Big Shot only workshop, and this was our Make & Take:

I made the denim jeans sleeve ahead of time and then we cut denim, felt, and animal print faux fur with the Big Shot Flower Folds Bigz XL Die #115970 and threaded a Summer Sun Corduroy Button #114343 through the layers with retired Black Hemp Twine.

We cut leather, cork, metal, chipboard, and cardstock at the workshop and I passed around several projects that were made with the Big Shot.  The ideas that we brainstormed from everyone's different perspectives were AWESOME!  I can't wait to see their projects once they get their machines and dies!

Time for another Mojo Monday Challenge!

Mojo Monday 135 Sentimental Journey

Last week I got my Stampin' Up! demonstrator pre-order from the upcoming Summer Mini Catalog and hadn't had time to play until the Mojo Monday challenge inspired me today.  I immediately knew I wanted to use the Sentimental Journey stamp set, Travel Journal Designer Series Paper, and matching Itty Bitty Bits stamp set, Bitty Buttons, and Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack!  These new goodies will be available to order for customers starting May 1st.  If you're a demonstrator like me you can pre-order a month before!  It only takes about 30 minutes to sign up!

The color combination of this patterned paper is awesome!  I pulled in some Vellum Card Stock, Bashful Blue Satin Ribbon, and Pumpkin Pie, Bashful Blue, and Night of Navy Card Stock to match.

• To simulate the stamped shape in the challenge sketch I used my Pinking Hearts Corner Punch on the 4 corners of the square Vellum Card Stock.
• I used the Scallop Trim Border Punch on the Bashful Blue Card Stock layer in the horizontal strip.
• The suitcase was stamped in VersaMark ink and heat embossed with White Stampin' Emboss Powder.  
• I used my Horizontal Slot Punch at the top fold of the card to make room for the ribbon to thread through to the back and tie in front.
• The star button was created by stamping one of the Itty Bitty Bits stamps in Night of Navy Classic Ink on Pumpkin Pie Card Stock, punched it out using the Itty Bitty Shapes Circle Punch then I used a Mini Glue Dot to adhere the Bitty Button circle over it!

Big Shot Workshop

I spent the day yesterday preparing for a Big Shot only workshop that I have this morning...It took me all day to get things "just right" because I've never done one like this, with ONLY Big Shot projects featuring primarily fabric.

Cut 3 layers of tulle with the Scallop Circles #2 Bigz Die, and cut up to 8 layers of cotton fabric at a time with the Circles #2 Originals Die (I cut 2 layers of two different prints and had extra circles left over).  Lay them out, alternating fabric and tulle layers while offsetting the circles for a whimsical look.

2.  Using linen thread and a large needle, sew the Pretty in Pink corduroy button through all the layers to hold the brooch together. Knot the linen thread on the front and tie an extra piece into a bow. Trim ends.

3.  Cut two slits on one more large fabric circle for the pin back to slide through, hiding the bar behind the circle. Adhere the pin back and fabric circle to the back of the flower brooch with a hot glue gun.

4.  Wear with pride!  YOU made it!

Whooo's Turning One Party Favors

Did you know that you can commission me to make finished projects for you?  That's exactly what Kimberly in Florida did...she asked me if I could make some Punch Art Owl cello treat bags for her daughter's first birthday party!  I worked up a few samples based on the colors she wanted and estimated my time and materials to complete the treat bags, and off we went!

Kimberly decided on Very Vanilla eyes over Summer Sun, and I think they are SO cute!  I wonder what she'll fill the bags with?
